On the August 22, 2024, we hosted a pivotal forum where 15 of the 24 candidates running in the upcoming elections had the opportunity to connect directly with the Tamworth Community. This engaging event drew over 200 residents and Tamworth Business Chamber members, all eager to learn more about the candidates and their positions on key issues. As we approach the elections scheduled for September 14th, this forum proved to be an invaluable platform for dialogue and exchange.
The forum provided a comprehensive overview of each candidate’s stance on a variety of important topics. Independent candidates were asked to clarify their political affiliations, and how they plan to mend relationships and collaborate effectively if elected. Other questions focused on strategies for addressing vandalism, revising the Blueprint 100, balancing green initiatives with business needs, improving progress and communication on regional growth plans, lobbying for regional funding, the impact of relocating Council headquarters, addressing housing shortages, ensuring transparency in communication, the role of the Council in affordable housing, funding infrastructure amidst rate increases, local procurement practices, the potential sale of non-essential assets, and initiatives to tackle the trades skills shortage with new state funding.
The event was designed to aid the community in making well-informed decisions when they cast their ballots. By facilitating direct interaction between candidates and voters, we aimed to provide transparency and clarity on each candidate’s policies and positions. This kind of engagement is crucial in ensuring that voters are not only informed but also feel connected to the electoral process.
We extend our thanks to all the candidates who participated and took the time to engage with the community. Your willingness to discuss your platforms and answer questions is greatly appreciated and demonstrates a commitment to the democratic process.
Additionally, we want to express our gratitude to the community members who submitted questions for the candidates. Your involvement was key to the forum’s success, helping to steer the conversation toward the issues that matter most to our community. Your questions not only challenged the candidates but also provided deeper insights into their plans and priorities.
Events like these are vital in fostering an informed electorate and ensuring that the voices of the community are heard. We are pleased to have facilitated a platform where meaningful discussions could take place, and where voters could gain a clearer understanding of who they are choosing to represent them.
As we approach the election date, we encourage everyone to reflect on the information shared during the forum and consider how each candidate’s vision aligns with your own values and needs.
Thank you once again to all who attended and participated in making this event a success. Your engagement is a crucial part of our democratic process, and we look forward to continuing to support and inform our community as we head toward the election.
