It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and Tamworth Business Chamber is encouraging the community to shop local this festive season.
Chamber President David Errington said small businesses are the backbone of our regional economy. They put pay cheques in pockets of local people and their success is crucial for the vibrancy and growth of our region.
"Shopping local is more than just a transaction it's about building relationships and supporting the local businesses who employ local people.
“Whether it’s in Tamworth, Manilla, Barraba or Nundle, when you shop locally, you're helping to create jobs and boost the local economy. Every purchase makes a difference.
“Whether you’re Christmas shopping, hosting the office Christmas Party or looking to book the perfect family lunch, please think about the difference you can make by staying local.
“By celebrating at a family-owned restaurant or pub, purchasing your Christmas Day feast from the local butcher, or buying presents from a local shop, you are supporting other families in your community”, said Mr Errington.
According to Martin Howes, Chamber Vice President and Centre Manager for Centrepoint Tamworth, early December foot traffic indicates the community want to shop local and recognise the value and convenience in the offerings available close to home.
“Our numbers are already showing a marked increase in foot traffic and retail sales across the board in the lead up to Christmas.
“Black Friday sales certainly kicked started Christmas shopping, but in-store shopping continues to prove popular which is not surprising given Tamworth is blessed with a quality mix of local, national and international retailers” stated Mr Howes.
Retail precincts and shopping centres across the Tamworth region are embracing the Christmas spirit with Christmas decorations and promotional offerings including Santa photos, gift wrapping and Christmas entertainment like carol singers.
“Another great reason to shop local is to enjoy the festive atmosphere that shopping centres work hard to create.
“Not only can you purchase the perfect gift without the risk of being scammed, but most centres also offer free parking, extended trading hours and the opportunity to immerse yourself in all things Christmas” concluded Mr Howes.
